We may be in the depths of winter, but it’s still Hottest 100 eve. Tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. AEST, triple j’s first-ever Hottest 100 of Australian Songs begins.

With less than 24 hours to go until the fun begins, the national youth broadcaster has offered some teasers to further increase our anticipation.

The triple j team has counted over 2.65 million votes ahead of tomorrow’s countdown. They’ve discovered that one act in the top 20 will make their triple j Hottest 100 debut, just 30 votes separate the songs coming in at #100 and #101, one act has a back-to-back entry, and eight entries are separated by under ten votes.

In additional stats, triple j confirmed that 18-29 year-olds were the largest cohort of voters, and at last count, every single song entered for the special countdown was Australian.

So, what are your guesses? Could Daryl Braithwaite be making his Hottest 100 debut? Or The Veronicas? What about John Farnham, who previously appeared in 2011’s Australian Albums countdown, appear on this Hottest 100?

Who has the back-to-back entry? We’re thinking Powderfinger or AC/DC.

You can check out Lucy Smith’s rundown of what to expect on tomorrow’s Hottest 100 of Australian Songs below.

The Hottest 100 of Australian Songs is dedicated to homegrown music that has resonated across generations, defining the Australian sound. It’s about championing the artists and tracks made in our own backyard that have left a lasting impact on the Australian audience.

In addition to the tunes, the countdown will feature an all-star cast of beloved triple j and Double J voices, including Ash McGregor & Dave Woodhead, Dylan Lewis & Yumi Stynes, Abby Butler & Tyrone Pynor, Concetta Caristo & Luka Muller, and Zan Rowe & Lucy Smith.

The countdown will air across the entire triple j network (triple j, Double J, Unearthed, and triple j Hottest) from 10:00 a.m. AEST. You can tune into the radio, online, or via the triple j app.

The Music has just published two opinion pieces on the forthcoming countdown. Liz Giuffre penned an op-ed on why we need a Hottest 100 of Australian Songs, while David James Young argued, no, actually, the Hottest 100 shouldn’t be all-Australian. Whichever way you lean on the matter, it’s a fun time to be a fan of Australian music!
