The rumours were true: triple j has announced a special Hottest 100 of Australian Songs.
Over the last week, users on the triple j Reddit have speculated about a Hottest 100 of Australian Songs coming this year. Today’s announcement arrives as the national youth broadcaster celebrates its 50th birthday.
A special mid-year countdown that will take place next month, the Hottest 100 of Australian Songs is dedicated to homegrown music that has resonated across generations and defined the Australian sound.
Voting opened this morning – you can have your say here until voting closes on Thursday, 17 July, at 5 pm AEST. The big day will occur on Saturday, 26 July, from 10 am AEST, with the Hottest 100 of Australian Songs airing across the entire triple j network; you can listen on triple j, Double J, triple j Unearthed, and triple j Hottest.
In addition to the tunes, the countdown will feature an all-star cast of beloved triple j and Double J voices, including Ash McGregor & Dave Woodhead, Dylan Lewis & Yumi Stynes, Abby Butler & Tyrone Pynor, Concetta Caristo & Luka Muller, and Zan Rowe & Lucy Smith.
As a press release notes, the upcoming special countdown is about championing the artists and tracks made in our own backyard that have left a lasting impact on the Australian audience. You’ll be able to vote for classics and modern anthems, as long as the songs you’re voting for were released before triple j’s 50th birthday (19 January 2025).
