Olivia Rodrigo was the Sunday (29 June) headliner at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, and for any naysayers who doubted her as a headline act, she proved them all wrong.

Three years after making her Glastonbury debut, Rodrigo returned with a bang, headlining on her second appearance on one of the festival’s stages.

Ripping through a hit-filled set of ballads and pop-rock hits, such as vampire, driver’s license, good 4 u, and many others, the American singer-songwriter shocked the massive audience watching her on the Pyramid Stage (and from home) by bringing out The Cure’s Robert Smith.

Together, the pair duetted beloved The Cure classics Just Like Heaven and Friday, I’m In Love. Introducing him to the stage, Rodrigo described Smith as “probably the greatest songwriter to come out of England.”

You can watch footage of the performance below and via BBC iPlayer.

In addition to making headlines for spectacular performances across the massive line-up, Glastonbury has also made waves due to artists making political statements during their sets.

Kneecap, performing while member Mo Chara is on bail from terror charges—one of which has been dropped—played a raucous set of tunes, and led chants of “Free, Free Palestine” and “Fuck Keir Starmer”.

Meanwhile, UK Police are investigating British punk-meets-rap duo, Bob Vylan, for Bobby Vylan’s “death, death to the IDF” chant. Glastonbury organisers shared a statement following the duo’s televised performance, saying they were “appalled” by the remarks.

English singer and former Little Mix member Jade Thirlwall also expressed her political beliefs in a song called FUFN (Fuck You For Now), which included the lyrics “Reform! Transphobia! Selling arms! Genocide!”

Aussies Amyl And The Sniffers made a statement, too, by sharing outspoken support for Palestine and Indigenous Australians and other colonised people across the globe (they also criticised JK Rowling).

Olivia Rodrigo headlined Glastonbury alongside The 1975 and Neil Young. Pulp, HAIM and Lorde ended up performing not-so-secret sets, while Lewis Capaldi made his triumphant return to the Glastonbury stage and Turnstile performed what’s been dubbed one of the festival’s best (and most energetic) sets.
