The next batch of WA gems

Having previously shone a light on early works from acts like Methyl Ethel and Tired Lion, WAM’s annual Song Of The Year competition has a solid record of nurturing Perth acts on the cusp of something great.

The WA music body has today revealed the 2016-17 nominees, with local legends Riley Pearce, Rag N Bone, Morgan Bain and a stack more now eyeing off $40,000 in prizes.

With 16 categories, WAM Song Of The Year has expanded to be one of the country’s biggest competitions of its kind, so it’s not surprising they’re pulling out all the stops when it comes to the awards party, this year taking over WA’s Maritime Museum for the first time.

The May 17 harbourside celebration will be hosted by MC Magnus Danger Magnus and will feature performances from DJ Charlie BucketThe Money WarBen Matthews and Dan Howls.

The below tunes will be judged by music industry experts from across the country to determine a winner, including new judges Paul Harding (Pendulum), Fiona Kitschin (The Drones), and Rob Younger (Radio Birdman).
