"They seek to actively target and destroy a community."
The WA live music industry has pulled itself out of somewhat of a rut over the past few years, with a string of new venues opening after multiple closures, but it seems some Northbridge residents aren’t happy with the vibrancy of the state’s scene, calling for the local government to take action again burgeoning late-night godsend Jack Rabbit Slim’s.
The Aberdeen Street hotspot opened just over a year ago and has established itself as one of the country’s best hangs/live music venues during that time, residing near numerous apartment complexes on the same street; one of which is seeking the Perth City Council take action against the “excessive noise during the weekdays”.
The bulletin board post was brought to the masses attention by WA DJ Timbee, who shared it on Facebook and gave its co-authors an epic schooling.
“Do you know what grinds my gears like almost nothing else? People who move into a nightclub district and then seek to start active campaigns against the venues around them,” Timbee posted.

“Northbridge has seen the closure of a number of venues as residential rate payers out number the voting power of venues more than 10 fold. They seek to actively target and destroy a community, which was there long before these whinging yuppies took up residence in a completely inappropriate location."
Timbee goes on to point out the complex in which Jack Rabbit Slim’s occupies has been hosted music venues since the ‘90s, dating back to the Post Office.
“This isn't on. In some states rules apply to people moving into a nightspot area and the venues are not subjected to the sort of fascicle we deal with in WA. In the wise words of Chris Crocker, ‘Leave Northbridge Alone!’
“Stand up and support your Northbridge."
Last July, Beaufort Street venue Velvet Lounge was forced to stop hosting live music due to noise complaints from neighbours.
