Renewed concerns for Ozzy Osbourne’s health have surfaced ahead of the final Black Sabbath show this July.
The show, which will take place in the legendary heavy metal band’s home city of Birmingham, will see Black Sabbath perform, a short set from frontman Ozzy Osbourne, and special guest performances by Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Anthrax, Tool, Lamb Of God, Halestorm, Mastodon, Korn, Alice In Chains, Gojira, Slash, Wolfgang Van Halen, Tom Morello, and more. Morello will also act as the show’s Musical Director.
Osbourne recently revealed that he “can’t walk” due to his health issues, including Parkinson’s disease, and that he’d be “doing little bits and pieces” at the forthcoming concert.
In a new interview with Loudwire Nights, Tool singer Maynard James Keenan addressed Osbourne’s struggles, admitting that he was unsure about the heavy metal icon when Osbourne was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.
“Seeing Ozzy moving around at [the Rock Hall ceremony], the idea of him playing a show at all, if we’re being honest, the conversation about going to do the song was like, ‘We’ll have this conversation, but, ahh… I don’t know that this [concert] is gonna happen,’” Keenan said.
“Even now, I’m cautious about saying, ‘Yeah! All in, he’s gonna do it.’ Because man, I don’t know what kind of modern miracles we’ll come up with to get him on stage to do the songs, but this is gonna be a challenge for them. So, I’m honoured to be a part of it, but I’m kinda preparing for the worst – but hoping for the best, as they say.”

Halestorm singer Lzzy Hale also hinted at Osbourne’s potential inability to perform at the upcoming show.
In an interview with Audacy Music, Hale revealed that she’d been asked to perform Close My Eyes Forever with Osbourne. “According to Tom Morello, that is in the works, but we’re going to have to wait,” Hale shared. “He said, ‘You’re going to have to be patient with the confirmation for that.’”
She added, “Because of Ozzy’s health and everything, we’re going to have to see pretty much on the day whether Ozzy’s [going] to be singing or how much Ozzy’s going to be singing and willing to do… Halestorm is doing a set. We’re also doing a Black Sabbath cover. And I’ve been asked to sing in the supergroup with Tom Morello and everybody there.”
The concert, dubbed Back To The Beginning, will take place in Birmingham on Saturday, 5 July, at Villa Park. The show will mark the first time Black Sabbath’s original line-up of Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward have performed together in 20 years.
