After 10 years of crafting music and visual media, alt-rock duo Those Who Dream are calling an indefinite hiatus.

The band, made up of siblings Josh and Hazel Meyer, announced the news of their career split on Wednesday, 15th January. The news comes a mere three months after the release of their acclaimed EP, Therapy Machine.

Those Who Dream was born out of the sibling duo’s shared love of music in 2014 and has careened a listener base extending from Australia to beyond. They have toured extensively, even opening for massive acts such as Nothing But Thieves, Mayday Parade, Short Stack, and Real Friends.

According to their social media statement, the choice to leave the project was first suggested by singer Josh Meyer following “a lot of super fast heavy changes”, becoming a unanimous decision after consideration.

Josh affirmed, “It breaks my heart to step back from this project, Those Who Dream was everything to me. I know this decision will hurt a lot of you, it’s taken a lot of time for me to manage the weight of my choice, I just hope you know how deeply painful this is for me too…”

Hazel added her thoughts on the decision in the same post: “When I got the news that Josh wouldn’t be continuing with the band that had been our joint dream for more than 10 years, I was heartbroken. I supported him 100%, but my dream hadn’t changed - I still want to play drums in a touring band that doubles as my own personal creative outlet.”

“I didn’t want to lose the community we’d spent a decade working so hard to build. But after processing the sudden change in my life direction, I came to see it as a blessing in disguise. It took Josh dropping that news for me to come to realise the ways I’d outgrown Those Who Dream and how ready I was for the next phase of my life. That involves me taking the steering wheel and starting my own band called STARJINX, becoming the leader I now can see I’m destined to be.”

Those Who Dream will take to the stage one final time in their hometown of Perth, WA, playing at Milk Bar on Saturday, March 1st. Supporting Those Who Dream for their final show are Melbourne alt-rockers Belle Haven, along with Perth-based rapper and producer Sunny Flowers.

While the duo will no longer release music together, they promise to share unreleased material and updates on their solo projects. Josh will pursue personal endeavours outside the band, while Hazel’s STARJINX project can be followed via Instagram.

Tickets for the final performance are available now via Oztix. For more details, visit thosewhodream.co
