'Man Woman Life Death Infinity' will land later this week.

More The Church More The Church

Just under three years after the release of their acclaimed album Further/Deeper, legendary Australian band The Church are back in the saddle with yet another full-length to add to their voluminous catalogue of works.

The second album to be recorded with the Sydney-bred outfit's current line-up, Man Woman Life Death Infinity will be released this week — yes, you read that right — on Friday, 6 October, and is billed as a "more succinct" release than its predecessor, tapping into singer-songwriter and bassist Steve Kilbey's connection to water.

"I guess water is my element," Kilbey said in a statement. "I've always marvelled at the sea and rivers and rain. It wasn't conscious at all but, on reflection, it definitely is a preoccupation on this record. What that means, I don't know."

The album features 10 tracks — including recently released single Undersea — across 45 minutes and was written in two sessions earlier this year in Brisbane and Sydney, at the studios of members Ian Haug and Tim Powles. The album was co-produced with seasoned Church collaborator Ted Howard at Rancom Street Studios in the band's hometown.

The Church will be taking the record on the road for a seven-date national tour in November and December, which Kilbey hints is likely to be as much an adventure for the musicians themselves as their audiences.

"This is an album we’re really looking forward to exploring live," he said. "The way I write lyrics is very stream-of-consciousness. I never question them until we perform live, so I discover them in time as much as the audience."

Joined by Jeffrey Cain (ex-Remy Zero) on keys, guitars and vocals, The Church will kick off their Man Woman Life Death Infinity tour in Adelaide, and head to stages in Perth, Dunsborough, Brisbane, Melbourne, Lambton and Sydney over the ensuing weeks.

A ticket pre-sale will be held from 9am AEDT this Friday, 6 October, before general public passes go up for grabs from 9am AEDT on Tuesday 10 October.

Pre-orders for the album are available now.
