Sum 41 will no longer perform at Good Things Festival as singer Deryck Whibley has been diagnosed with pneumonia. The band have also cancelled their remaining sideshows.
Yesterday (4 December), the Canadian punk rockers cancelled their sideshow at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall due to Whibley’s diagnosis. Telling fans that Whibley was receiving the “best possible local care,” the band worked with promoters to ensure that fans would be refunded.
Making the most out of a saddening situation, the band’s special guest, grandson, played a free, all-ages show, with Sum 41’s Frank Zummo playing a DJ set earlier in the evening.
The band said about departing the Good Things Festival line-up and the cancellation of their remaining Australian tour dates on social media:
It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce our 2024 Australian tour is unable to proceed. We were beyond excited to deliver this tour from December 4 - December 14, and connect with our Aussie fans once more. Now that we're here though, and under the guidance and direction of multiple Australian doctors, it's clear that Deryck is too unwell to perform.
We understand and appreciate your disappointment - we're gutted too.
The good news is Good Things Festival is still going ahead in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane this weekend with an incredible lineup of local and international acts. We can't be there, but get along for us and have the best time.
Ticket buyers for our Tour of the setting Sum sideshow will be receiving refund information from the ticketing agencies shortly.

Good Things Festival will take place tomorrow (6 December) at Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse, Sydney’s Centennial Park on Saturday (7 December), and the Brisbane Showgrounds on Sunday (8 December).
