More Stevie Nicks More Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks has taken part in one of the most unexpected collaborations of the year, covering a Ron Sexsmith Christmas classic with members of The Philly Specials – a music group made up Philadelphia Eagles NFL players.

The group features former player Jason Kelce (otherwise known as brother of Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce), along with current players Lane Johnson and the Australian-born Jordan Mailata. Over the past two years, they’ve released a pair of Christmas albums, including A Philly Special Christmas and A Philly Special Christmas Special.

This year, they’re gearing up to release A Philly Special Christmas Party, and have recruited a few big names for the release, including Fleetwood Mac’s own Stevie Nicks.

Nicks’ appearance sees her taking part in a cover of Ron Sexsmith’s 2002 track Maybe This Christmas, which has also been covered by numerous artists over the years and has slowly become a fan favourite.

“There are no words to describe how incredible it is to have Stevie Nicks on this record,” said executive producer Conner Barwin in a statement. “There is so much emotion in this song, and it was thrilling to be with them in the studio and watch her and Jason connect, be creative together, and witness this beautiful song become a reality.”

“I was really hoping this song would resonate with Jason when we were kicking around ideas for this record, and it’s clear from the way he inhabits that beautiful melody that it did,” added producer and drummer Charlie Hall.

“And to have Stevie Nicks, one of the all-time masters of emotional transference (and an all-time hero of mine) come in and amplify all this is such a dream. I love this duet so much.”

Fittingly, the track arrives just months after Taylor Swift debuted her song Clara Bow – which namechecks Nicks – at a performance in Dublin, which also included Nicks in attendance. Presumably, Kelce will be able to facilitate a reciprocal performance for Nicks and Swift soon.
