“'Spicks & Specks' is a joy to make, and this series feels like one of our best.”

The long-awaited new season of Spicks & Specks has finally been given a premiere date.

Adam Hills, Myf Warhurst and Alan Brough will return to ABC TV and ABC iView in just under a month, with the first of ten new episodes airing Sunday 7 August at 7:40pm.

The announcement confirms “ten mystery songs, one-hundred clues, two team captains and forty guests trying to figure it all out”, with returning guests Hamish Blake, Denise Scott, Dave O'Neil, Luke McGregor, Rhys Nicholson, Nath Valvo and Zoe Coombs Marr onboard alongside newcomers Casey Donovan, Montaigne, Emma Watkins, Dylan Alcott and Mama Alto.

“As the Australian live music scene slowly gets back on its feet, we wanna give it a leg up by showcasing some of the best new musicians Australia has to offer (as well as a couple of legends thrown in for good measure),” Hills said.

“Of course, we'll do it all with some of the best comedians in the country. Spicks & Specks is a joy to make, and this series feels like one of our best.”

Last month, it was revealed a new game titled The Secret Song would be added to the upcoming season, alongside fan favourites such as Substitute, Know Your Product and Look What They've Done To My Song, Ma.

On the new game, Hills noted: “Throughout every episode, I drop clues and hints as to what a Secret Song is and then at the end of the show, they get bonus points if they work it out.

“But we’ve designed it in a way so that if you’re watching it at home, hopefully, you’ve also got the game to play. Some of the clues are really obvious, like dropped lyrics. One clue involved me pulling out a hemorrhoid cushion. So some things can be obscure.”

At the time, Hills also spoke about what to expect from some of the upcoming season's guests: “Montaigne talks about how she wants to write the anthem for the next Women’s World Cup and did a collaboration with David Byrne.

“I literally just walked out of a room where we were working on next week’s show with one of the guys from the electronic duo Peking Duk who talked about how crossing the border from one country to another they smoked everything they had on the bus and then got so high he forgot the word for ‘toothbrush'.”

Also confirmed by ABC last month in the same announcement, Zan Rowe's Take 5, a regular segment on her Friday mornings show on Double J, is getting its own TV series later this year.

The beloved show sees her deliver an in-depth interview that uses music to tell the story of her special guest, which originally ran on triple j.

It's featured the likes of Paul McCartney, Jessica Mauboy, Mike D, Shirley Manson, Billy Corgan, Kylie Minogue and Common just to name a few.
