Brisbane recording studio Hunting Ground is stepping into another area of the music industry: publishing.

The expansion of Hunting Ground Studios, launching Hunting Ground Publishing, will be presented to the public next Wednesday (2 September) as part of BIGSOUND.

The company is set to debut at the Brunswick Mall Stage during a showcase party from 4:30 pm to 6 pm, spotlighting its first signees, Jungaji and HOLYSTONE, followed by an industry mixer at Finn McCools.

Joel Myles, Director of Hunting Ground Publishing, said of exciting expansion news, “Hunting Ground Publishing is a natural next step for us, backing the writers we believe in, finding new opportunities for their music and helping those songs reach further, while they keep doing what they do best.”

Featured artists Jungaji and HOLYSTONE are on their way to a breakthrough. The former is a Western Gugu Yalanji and Birrigubba songman, visual artist, and playwright who advocates for healing and justice.

Blending soul music with R&B and traditional First Nations songlines, Jungaji carries an ancient energy to contemporary stages, bringing the spiritual to life.

Meanwhile, HOLYSTONE is a three-piece based in Brisbane, which blends “melodic doom, hypnotic psychedelia, and apocalyptic world-building.”

Starring the dual vocal attack of Madison Morris and Wolfe Peterson, who play the bass and electric guitar, respectively, plus drummer Jonny Pickvance, the band have become one of Australia’s most exciting rising heavy acts.

Their debut album, East of the Sun, West of the Moon, was unveiled in 2024. HOLYSTONE have shared stages with Brant Bjork Trio, Yawning Man, and Witchskull, and have performed at Nowhere Festival and Psychnight

Hunting Ground Publishing launches as an independent music publishing company with a focus on championing great songs and the people behind them. The team, partnering with artists and songwriters, provides publishing administration, royalty collection, catalogue management, sync and licensing opportunities, and global rights management.

The company takes a hands-on, artist-first approach, believing that “great songwriters should be able to focus on what they do best: creating great music.”

In late 2024, it was announced that Hunting Ground Studios would host an affordable live music series, titled Hunting Underground

The events were designed to be inclusive and affordable, using a “pay-what-you-can” ticketing method – $20-$30 is the suggested price, but it’s up to you – and allowing punters to bring their own drinks.
