Christmas might be in our immediate rearview, but for music-lovers, the biggest holiday of the year is on the way, with Record Store Day announcing the date of its 2025 event.

For those who might be entirely beholden to streaming, Record Store Day is the annual international celebration of record stores around the world, designed to not only support brick-and-mortar music outlets but to also champion the notion of buying music from your favourite artists.

Since it began in 2007, the event has only grown in popularity, and it’s a little difficult to find anyone in your local record store who isn’t counting down the day until the music-lover’s holiday comes around again.

Traditionally held on the third Saturday in April, Record Store Day celebrations will be happening a tad earlier this year – on April 12th – due to the third Saturday actually being a holiday in many countries.

Celebrating its 18th birthday this year, the 2025 edition of Record Store Day will see more than 200 independent record stores across Australia spin into action with exclusive vinyl releases, special events and unique RSD activations – all of which we’ll learn more about in the coming weeks and months.

This year, things are being done a little bit differently. Historically, Record Store Day has only accepted exclusive vinyl releases from established record labels and artists. In 2025, however, Record Store Day Australia is opening its registrations to all Australian artists and labels.

Previous years have seen some amazing releases issued as part of Record Store Day Australia, including wax from the likes of Ocean Alley, Underground Lovers, Confidence Man, and even a 7” collab between Peking Duk and Darren Hayes. That is – of course – without mentioning the big sellers like The Wiggles and Bluey.

So if you’re an artist who has a musical release on the way and might want to turn it into an exclusive Record Store Day release, now’s the time to register your interest via the official registration form.

The full list of Record Store Day releases – including exclusive Australian releases – will be announced in the coming weeks.
