Leanne TennantCairns-based artist Leanne Tennant – who performs as LT – has just had her music exposed to millions of new listeners, after her song Real Life = No Fun was shared by the official Grey’s Anatomy social media account.
Musicians have experienced new or their first cultural breakthroughs after having songs synced on the long-running medical drama series. Artists including The Postal Service and Tegan and Sara featured on the season one soundtrack back in 2005.
Across its 22 seasons, Grey’s Anatomy has propelled the mainstream breakouts of bands and artists such as The Fray, Snow Patrol, Brandi Carlile, The National, Sara Bareilles, Bon Iver, Feist, London Grammar, Australia’s own Ben Lee and Vance Joy, and many others. So, LT is in esteemed company.
Written alongside musician and producer Joel Quartermain (Eskimo Joe) and record producer Edwin White (Vance Joy, Meg Mac, Amy Shark), Real Life = No Fun is a quirky, tongue-in-cheek alternative track, with summery guitars and drums highlighting harmonies from LT.
The verses and chorus are sublimely catchy, whistles abound, and LT’s request to “lead me to the water / so shallow” demands to be followed.

Grey’s Anatomy’s 22nd season is currently airing on Disney+ in Australia. Real Life = No Fun features on the ninth episode of the season, airing at 1 pm AEDT today, and arrives as LT prepares to unleash more new music in 2026.
The significance of LT on Grey’s Anatomy can’t be overstated, as an artist from regional Queensland and an outspoken activist who rallies against ageism in the creative industries.
LT said, “Age is still one of the quiet gatekeepers in music. Grey’s Anatomy has a long history of ignoring those limits and backing the work itself. Having Real Life = No Fun placed in that context is powerful, because it shows that relevance isn’t dictated by age, but by emotional truth.”
LT is a Qld Music Awards winner for Best Blues & Roots Artist for her debut album, Pull Up Your Britches, released in 2014. In 2024, she won the QMA for her song Act Your Age.
