This year’s edition of OUT 2 LUNCH Festival – headlined and curated by Australian DJ FISHER – has been postponed to 2027.

The event was scheduled to take place next month, and, for the first time, was meant to expand beyond its Sunshine Coast origins and go national.

OUT 2 LUNCH 2026 was originally booked for Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse on Saturday, 2 May, Gold Coast’s Doug Jennings Park on Sunday, 3 May, the Sydney International Regatta Centre on Saturday, 9 May, and at Perth’s Wellington Square on Sunday, 10 May.

FISHER was set to headline the event, which would have showcased an all-star bill of international and Australian acts. The line-up also starred English electronic music production duo, Gorgon City, UK electronic star Skream aka Oliver Jones, DJ, label boss and curator Sarah Story, American techno/house/dark dance DJ Azzecca, Gold Coast’s own Little Fritter, and more.

In a statement issued to the press, festival promoters TEG Live said they decided to postpone this year’s travelling event due to “significant pressures” placed on the Australian live events industry. Said pressures include the “ongoing cost-of-living crisis, rising inflation and broader economic uncertainty.”

TEG Live also pointed to Australia’s reliance on fuel from Iran, which is currently impossible to secure due to the ongoing war in Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Australia has since faced cancelled shipments, delayed deliveries and diesel shortages, which the promoters expect will endure through to the end of May.

“The decision comes as the festival’s national expansion - with four large-scale events spread across nine days and spanning the entire country - faces considerable challenges as the diesel fuel shortage will impact the trucking logistics, power generators, production infrastructure and a multitude of suppliers and services that underpin a major touring festival,” the promoters continued.

“While the excitement for the festival has been incredible, the team has made the proactive decision to move the tour to ensure the festival can proceed at a later time without disruption to fans, artists, suppliers and festival stakeholders.”

The 2027 dates for OUT 2 LUNCH will be revealed in “due course,” and punters who have tickets for this year’s event have valid tickets for the rescheduled dates. Refunds will also be available for ticket holders who’d prefer to get their money back.

In a statement, FISHER said he’s “really bummed” about the circumstances that have led to the postponement of OUT 2 LUNCH Festival, but left punters with some hope by saying that 2027 is “worth the wait.”

“I’m really bummed at the moment, at what is happening. And no one more than me would like to put on this show for you guys,” FISHER said. “We tried all angles, but unfortunately, we had to postpone due to the circumstances that were put before us.

“This is something that I don’t take lightly. I’ve seen this before, back in 2020 and 2021 when we had to postpone my shows 2 times before they ended up playing out, although it wasn’t what we wanted, it was the right thing for the fans in the end so we could put on the best show for you. Sometimes the pause is part of the plan. 2027 is worth the wait.”

Tim McGregor, Global Head of Touring at TEG Live, added, “Given the severe pressures on fuel supplies and consumer sentiment right now, we have to do the right thing and postpone the festival so that greater needs can be prioritised during this critical period, which we understand will be most acute during the next 6-8 weeks.

“The scale of this touring festival is immense, and delivering a world-class experience is our top priority — we believe rescheduling to 2027 is the best way to ensure we can deliver the incredible, high-quality festival that fans deserve.”
