Private FunctionThe festive season ended on a downer with the announcement that Melbourne punks Private Function would be breaking up after nine glorious, wild years. While they’re not embarking on a drawn-out farewell, they confirmed their final show today.
Private Function will play their last-ever gig in their hometown this March when they co-headline the fifth edition of LuliePalooza alongside singer-songwriter Grace Cummings.
Taking place on Saturday, 21 March, Melbourne’s beloved rock ‘n’ roll block party returns to Victoria Park, Abbotsford, for a fifth year. Set to have a new layout with more space to move and an epic line-up, this year’s LuliePalooza is confirmed to be another unmissable event.
Private Function will turn up “full mischief mode” for a final time at LuliePalooza, while Grace Cummings is set to deliver a hard-hitting set; Briggs will deliver his heavy project, Big Noter, for a politically charged fusion of metal and hip-hop; and WILSN is bringing inimitable soulful energy.

Additional acts include punk siblings Frenzee, Slowly Slowly’s Benjamin Stewart playing his solo tunes, Georgia Knight, The Vovos, The Smith & Western Jury, and many others. You can check out the full line-up below.
With extra grassy hangout space, shade, an LED screen, and improved sightlines, the new layout is perfect for the family-friendly event, which kicks off at 11:30 am. Punters can purchase kid tickets, Mob tickets, Lulie Lovers members tickets – for a discounted price – and general admission tickets now via the Lulie Tavern website.
In addition to the live music and good vibes, this year’s LuliePalooza features food from Lulie Burgers and Dingo Ate My Taco, the Lulie Lovers VIP Bar – set to feature a secret musical guest – plus showbags from local brands and heaps more.
Upon announcing their disbandment last month, Private Function told fans, “The last nine years have been the best time of our lives. We’ve accomplished more than we ever thought possible. And it’s all because of you helping us out.”
Given the band’s humorous nature and history of making outlandish statements, some fans were quick to take the news of the split with a grain of salt. However, the band urged punters to catch them live while they still can, while promising there’s still a “few shows and a few surprises for you before we totally bail.”
