Melbourne alternative newcomers, Slow Talk, are still quite fresh to the musical world, so much so that their proverbial umbilical chord has barely been snipped off.

The young alternative two-piece of vocalist James Butler and guitarist Ash Fuller take a DIY approach to everything about their band - from the musical production of their songs, the construction of their visual elements, to all of their auxiliary content as well. Which is noble and all, but what about their actual music? Well, the band's debut single which we're also stoked to be premiering today - the abstract and inviting 'Golden' - speaks real volumes of their instrumental care and melodic wisdom present in their craft; the kind that I feel goes far beyond their actual years.

On this new single, the pair dial in lush textures, melodic guitars lines, some real sonic beauty, soaring high-pitched vocals, a very well-constructed and surprisingly emotive soundscape, and even some acoustic, almost-flamenco guitar flares nicely closing out the piece too. As for the track's thematic origins, according to the band themselves, 'Golden' was written as "an exploration of our desire for people that physically fit the ideals we look for in a partner, whether they be people we briefly encounter in our daily lives, models we see on Instagram, or celebrities. It discusses our ability to extrapolate the little we know of these people and develop high opinions of them." Which is something that's crystal clear in the moods and the imagery that the vivid lyrics paint for the listener.

With this wondrous new track out and with their upcoming EP, 'New Vernacular' (set for release on April 27th), Slow Talk quite clearly pull their sound from the much-loved likes of Circa Survive, SaosinHail The Sun and Emarosa - that much is apparent from just one listen to 'Golden'. But these Melbourners own it and far more importantly, they do it very well, making their own solid stance within this familiar sound.

When I first heard Slow Talk, I was impressed and I can only hope that you'll all dig 'em too. So stream 'Golden' below and find out where you stand.
