Dean TurnleyThe Music chooses one song every week as its Power Pick, shining a light on ONE Aussie song that we think has the potential to be the next big Australian chart hit.
Our Power Pick committee consists of Richard Kingsmill (consultant and former triple j Group Music Director), Maddy Rowe (Nova nights announcer), Nic Kelly (Hit Network nights announcer), Ash McGregor (host of Listen Up with Ash McGregor), Kent “Smallzy” Small (Host of ‘The Smallzy Show’ on the Kiis Network), Irene Hulme (radio consultant and host of Game Changers Radio podcast) and Ollie Wards (ex-Head of Music for TikTok Australia).
After months of growing acclaim, Victorian producer Dean Turnley’s viral cut Actin’ Tough has arrived out into the world, garnering a massive response in the process.
Released on March 20th, its arrival was one preceded by plenty of requests for it to be officially released. Back in December, Turnley appeared at the Beyond The Valley festival with not without friends, where the track received a strong showing after being tested at Melbourne’s Section 8.
After the collective played the cut at their all-day event at Rippon Lea Estate, the track went viral on TikTok, with Turnley’s opening appearance at the Pitch Music & Arts festival in Victoria quickly reaching capacity.
Now, the track has received an official release, with the slick, ‘90s-inspired cut featuring a driving beat and a euphoric, club-ready sensibility which is the result of a very auspicious beginning for the track.

“I made the track on 404 sampler back in December and it’s been crazy watching the responses as the track was getting its first spins,” Turnley explained. “Excited for it to be out there!”
