It's Elton John's first number one in 22 years.

Elton John has scored his first UK number one in 22 years this week, and he can thank local electronic duo Pnau for it.

The album Good Morning To The Night features Pnau reworking a selection of Elton John songs (it's billed as Elton John vs Pnau) from the early '70s. John gave the duo unprecedented access to his catalogue and is now enjoying his first UK chart-topper since 1990's The Very Best Of Elton John.

Pnau, and particularly Empire Of The Sun member Nick Littlemore, have been favourites of John's after catching his ear a number of years ago.

Earlier in the week Pnau had tipped that the album was headed to the top spot, but it was only confirmed this morning (Australian time).

The single Sad from the record debuted at 48 in the UK this week.
