Plans to erect a statue of late frontman Michael Hutchence have been put on hold at the request of the INXS singer's family.
Yarra City Council were gauging interest from the local community after being approached for the statue to be built in Richmond, however Council confirmed in a statement that the proposal has been halted.
"Prior to beginning our community consultation, we were asked by the Hutchence family to put the proposal on hold," the statement reads.
"Some members of the family are still committed to pursuing Richmond as their preferred location for the statue, however others have indicated a desire to explore the possibility of having the statue created and located in North Sydney. In the interests of unity, the family have requested Yarra Council not to progress further with the proposal until this can be resolved.
"We respect the wishes of the Hutchence family and wish them all the best in seeing a statue of Michael realised."
The news comes ahead of the release of the Mystify soundtrack on 5 July which features previously-unreleased tracks by Hutchence to coincide with the documentary of the same name.
After premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival in April, the film also screened at this month's Sydney Film Festival.
