Our Takeaways From The New Ed Sheeran Doco Airing Tonight

Michael Gudinski came up with the biggest idea for the singer's massive upcoming tour.

More Ed Sheeran Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran has a new documentary having its world premiere in Australia tonight. The exclusive documentary, Full Circle, was put together by Mushroom Group and its all-star Aussie production crew. It follows Ed and his team as they prepare for five sold-out concerts at Wembley Stadium in London.

Matt Gudinski executively produced the film alongside Sheeran's longtime manager, Stuart Camp. Mushroom's Chief Creative Officer, Tom McDonald, is the Creative Director, with Creative House Officer Brian Purnell and Melbourne photographer Liam Pethick as Directors. Producers Daina Coxall, Travis Hogan, and Bethany Jones have varying roles across Mushroom House.

Ahead of its premiere tonight, we're sharing our key takeaways from Full Circle.

Michael Gudinski had the idea for Ed Sheeran's current stage set-up

That's right! Sheeran was apprehensive when Michael Gudinski approached him with his concept for Ed's stage to be round with a moving pathway - removing barriers and reaching Wembley Stadium's capacity rather than building a set that takes up the back seats.

Gudinski also suggested that the Lego House megastar performs at the MCG upon his return to Australia and that it was time for Ed to begin playing with a full band. Sheeran took all that advice to heart for the Wembley Stadium show featured in the documentary and will be performing at the MCG in 2023.

Australia was the first country outside the UK and Ireland to embrace Ed Sheeran

Although people at Mushroom fondly recall watching Ed Sheeran perform to just 50 people in Melbourne in an exclusive performance, everyday Aussies caught him at venues like the Palais and the Enmore before he started playing in Australian arenas in 2015. In 2018, Sheeran was the first artist to perform at Optus Stadium.

Ed Sheeran went from having a three-person crew to a 160-person team in a decade

Ed Sheeran's career skyrocketed following The A-Team, but before fame, the singer toured with just three people in his crew. Now, he has 160 people as part of his crew. His manager, stage managers, photographers, security team, production managers, etc., follow him around the world and say that Sheeran values them beyond their roles.

Multiple stage crew members mention that Ed checks in with them and ensures that they take breaks for their physical and mental health and that the team catch up off-tour even after touring the world for months and years to keep that bond close.

Full Circle really does lend unprecedented access to the Wembley Stadium show

Sometimes, when documentaries say that you're going behind the scenes with a megastar, you don't truly feel like you've been behind the curtain. The opposite is the case with Full Circle, as Ed Sheeran's crew show us the building of the round stage, the blueprint designs, and that four weeks before the show was supposed to go ahead, it wasn't going to happen.

You will also find Ed laughing, swearing, and being an ordinary dude with his crew.

There's at least one marriage proposal a night occurring at Ed Sheeran shows

And it's always during Perfect. Ed's photographers know when the proposals happen, as they see a bunch of phone lights in one direction of the stadium.

Full Circle premieres tonight following the ARIA Awards on Channel 9 at approximately 9:15 pm.
