The US biographical film, Straight Outta Compton, based on seminal hip-hop group NWA is to be released in cinemas throughout America today and it has been announced that extra security will be used at screenings across the country during its opening weekend.
Surprisingly the film's distributor, Universal Pictures, will pay for the extra security even though pre-screenings seen by thousands went ahead without incident.
As The Hollywood Reporter reports, Universal said they did not ask for security, but are only supporting those who requested it.
"The studio has not solicited enhanced security for theaters who will begin showing it this weekend, but has partnered with those exhibitors who have requested support for their locations," a spokesperson said.
The move comes just weeks after three people tragically died and several more were injured during a cinema shooting in Lafayette, Louisana.
However Universal have maintained they are backing the film, which is expected to open to big numbers this weekend saying, "The studio is proud of our association with Straight Out of Compton, which portrays the rise of five talented young men from underprivileged and oppressed backgrounds into one of the most influential music groups in modern history."
