Bring Me The Horizon frontman Oli Sykes suffered a “mild concussion” after a fan at a recent show threw a phone at him, hitting him in the head.

The incident took place during the band’s concert at the Enterprise Centre in St Louis on Monday (11 May). Sykes was struck in the head with a punter’s phone as the band performed Happy Song early in the set. In fan-captured footage you can watch below, Sykes quickly responded, “Who the fuck just threw a phone at my fuckin’ head?”

Following the incident, the Sleepwalking vocalist rubbed his temple and looked to be struggling for the remainder of the night. While he finished the show, the band cut the song YOUtopia from their set, and Sykes didn’t walk through the crowd during Drown like he usually would.

After the performance, Sykes took to social media and revealed that he’d suffered a mild concussion. However, the swelling had “gone down a decent amount already.”

“Alright everyone – just wanted to let you know I’m all good. The phone to the head definitely smarted and I ended up with a mild concussion, but the swelling’s gone down a decent amount already,” Sykes wrote on his Instagram Stories.

He continued, “Last night I was struggling a bit on stage afterwards because singing was putting a lot of pressure on the wound and making things feel a bit disorienting while performing, so I’m sorry on my part for what may of seemed like a half-hearted performance.

“Appreciate everyone checking in and worrying about me though 🖤 Everything should be fine for tonight’s gig.”

Bring Me The Horizon are currently touring across North America. Next month, they’ll be travelling across Europe when they take part in festival season, appearing at the likes of Sweden Rock Festival, Rock For People, Nova Rock, Hellfest, Graspop, Copenhell, and more.

In March, the band showcased a groundbreaking cinema event with their concert film, L.I.V.E. in São Paulo (Live Immersive Virtual Experiment). The bold film captured the band’s performance in São Paulo for 50,000 punters, blending dramatic visuals with their brand of heavy music.

Bring Me The Horizon last toured Australia in 2024 with special guests Sleep Token, Aussie metalcore outfit Make Them Suffer, and alternative star daine. A month after their tour, the band surprise released their latest album, POST HUMAN: NeX GEn.

POST HUMAN: NeX GEn was announced in June 2023, before the band postponed the release due to “unforeseen circumstances” that left them “unable to complete the record to the standard we'd be happy with”.

Six singles preceded the release of POST HUMAN: NeX GEn: lead single Die4u in September 2021, Strangers in July 2022, Lost in May 2023, Amen featuring Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw fame and Lil Uzi Vert in June 2023, Darkside in October 2023, and final single Kool-Aid in January 2024. In between the single drops, keyboardist Jordan Fish departed the band in December 2023.
