Nick Cave & The Bad SeedsOne of Australia’s most-loved bands, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, seems to be already working on new music.
In August 2024, the band released their eighteenth album, Wild God, the long-awaited follow-up to 2019’s Ghosteen. It was also the first record since 2016’s Skeleton Tree to feature all Bad Seeds, as well as Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood.
Now, less than two years later and after sold-out tour dates in Australia and beyond, Nick Cave seems to be ready to open the band’s next chapter. This week, he responded to a number of fans who wrote to his Red Hand Files blog, where he discussed his sleeping (and dreaming) patterns.
After Cave told fans that he tends to get two separate three-hour sleeps a night, he said he then wakes up in the morning, puts on a suit, and gets to work.
“This morning, I am going to Islington to mess around in the studio,” Cave wrote, adding that he would be joined by his fellow bandmates Martyn P. Casey, who he assured fans is “well now,” as is Thomas Wylder. He also described bandmates Jim Sclavunos as “always robust” and Warren Ellis as “still lovely and deranged.”
Cave concluded that their visits to the studio follow “the vague idea of perhaps making a new record.”

Reviewing their show at RNA Showgrounds in Brisbane, The Music’s Carley Hall declared, “There are gigs, and then there are Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds gigs – experiences that feel less like music shows and more like something ceremonial.”
In other Nick Cave news, the singer and musician appeared on Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea’s debut solo album, Honora, a jazz record. He featured as a guest vocalist alongside Radiohead’s Thom Yorke.
