A new independent fashion festival WINGS is coming to Sydney’s Plaza Hotel this May, boasting a space where “fashion collides with music, art and digital culture”.
Founded by designer Alvi Chung and cultural strategist Daniel Neeson, WINGS is a two-day dynamic haven for independent fashion, music and performance art to co-exist. Created as a bold alternative to the fashion mainstream, WINGS aims to provide an unfiltered and accessible experience for those looking for unorthodox fashion events, spotlighting designers and multi-disciplinary artists who are pushing the envelope.
Coined as “an electric reminder” of Sydney’s thriving underground by Harpers Bazaar, WINGS will be held from the 8th to the 9th of May, transforming the lux interior of The Plaza Hotel’s three levels into a full-scale runway show, featuring large installations, unique lighting design and immersive performance art. The event will host some of the city’s most groundbreaking, emerging designers within the underground fashion circuit, including Catholic Guilt, Speed, Joteo, Amiss and Jody Just.
The integral meshing of music and fashion will manifest through live music performances from fashion-adjacent upstarts, including genre-bending electronic Naarm mainstays Maggz and Solsa, as well as leading Sydney punk, alternative electronic and noise acts G.U.N, Cold Heat and Agony. On different levels of The Plaza Hotel, the night will be soundtracked by DJ Fukhead, Jebpi, Kilimi, Thick Owens, Shuko, Lau and Shantan Wantan Ichibian. Elsewhere, the Tokyo inspired Hi-Fi + Vinyl Bar and heritage listed, art deco cinema and underground caverns will be accessible to patrons. Finally, an ultimate backstage experience will leave guests well-nourished at the hands of acclaimed chef Sam Bull (formerly of Icebergs, North Bondi Italian Food and Prince of York).
With garments worn by Julia Fox, The Kid LAROI, Post Malone and Brent Faiyaz, the designers featured through WINGS contribute to a larger narrative around the importance of authentic artistry within the local fashion space.
“WINGS was born out of the underground Sydney scene where fashion, art and music instinctively collide. We wanted to create something unique in this spirit — a gritty guerrilla fashion week with authenticity and cultural teeth that was compelling to fashion fans and accessible for emerging designers to share their work,” said Neeson.

Chung agrees, stating, “This isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about space, storytelling, and reclaiming authorship. This is our most ambitious project yet.”
Following the festival, WINGS will kick off a two-week curated pop-up store on George Street right in the heart of Sydney CBD, running from Saturday May 10 to Sunday May 25. All works from the featured designers and artists will be on display, including exclusive garments, art pieces and collaborative workshops. Find all the details for WINGS and the pop-up below.
