British folk-rock outfit Mumford & Sons will make their debut at the iconic Sydney Opera House next month, heading Down Under for an exclusive gig in the Concert Hall.

Taking place on Monday, 17 March, the Grammy Award-winning trio—Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane—will return for their first Australian show in six years ahead of the release of their forthcoming fifth album, Rushmere.

According to a press release, a majority of tickets will be sold via the band’s fan club pre-sale, which will open at 10 am AEDT on Thursday, 13 February. Tickets to the general public will be available at 10 am AEDT on Friday, 14 February, via the Sydney Opera House website.

In a statement, the Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music, Ben Marshall, said: “What an extraordinary moment to welcome Mumford & Sons exclusively to Sydney for their Opera House debut – a band that has completely reconstructed the DNA of contemporary folk-rock for a new generation.

“For a group that regularly headlines festivals and arenas worldwide with their fierce and emotionally charged live performances, it is a genuine honour to have them unveil the Australian debut of Rushmere, together with key hits from their brilliant catalogue, in the fitting setting of our Concert Hall.”

Marshall added, “Mumford & Sons’ influence on modern music is immeasurable, inspiring countless artists with their raw honesty, spellbinding musicianship and raucous, cathartic choral swells. This will be a show-stoppingly intimate evening with one of music's most vital live acts."

Rushmere is due for release on Friday, 28 March. The album is named after the pond in south-west London where the group first hung out and discussed starting a band. It’s also the band’s first album in seven years and their first as a trio.

Since emerging from the West London scene, Mumford & Sons have been nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize with their 2009 debut album, Sigh No More, before taking over charts globally with the multi-platinum Babel (2012).

Babel was followed by 2015’s Wilder Mind and 2018’s Delta. Throughout their career, Mumford & Sons have won two Grammy Awards, a BRIT Award, and an ARIA Award, sold millions of records, and amassed over two billion Spotify streams for their most popular songs.
