Morrissey has cancelled two US shows on his current world tour, citing a “credible threat” on his life.

The Hand In Glove singer was set to perform at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut on Friday (19 September) and Boston’s MGM Music Hall on Saturday (20 September). But the shows were abruptly cancelled.

“In recent days, there has been a credible threat on Morrissey’s life,” a post on the former The Smiths’ singer’s Facebook page reads.

It continued, “Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and audience, tonight’s engagement at Foxwoods has been cancelled. We appreciate your understanding.”

According to a follow-up post, the gigs were cancelled due to “recent events and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and band.”

While the post didn’t elaborate on what “recent events” referred to, The Guardian notes that American conservative pundit Charlie Kirk was killed during a speaking event in Utah last week.

The news arrives as earlier this week, a 26-year-old man from Ottawa, Canada, was arrested after allegedly making threats to kill Morrissey ahead of his show in the city. The man was then released on bail.

The Ottawa Citizen reported on the man’s alleged threat to Morrissey’s life, quoting the individual’s post on the social media app Bluesky: “Steven Patrick Morrissey when you perform at TD Place here in Ottawa next week on the evening of September 12th, 2025 at about 9 pm, I will be present at the venue in the audience and I will attempt to shoot you many times and kill you with a very large gun that I own illegally.”

The Ottawa concert ended up going ahead as planned.

In other Morrissey news, the singer recently stated that he had “no choice” but to sell his business interests in The Smiths “to any interested party/investor.”

After writing that he was “burnt out” by any connections to his former The Smiths bandmates, Johnny Marr, Mike Joyce, and Andy Rourke, the latter of whom passed away in 2023, Morrissey added that “any serious investors” should email eaves7760@gmail.com if they’re interested in accessing the singer’s “full and exclusive” rights to the following:

1. The name 'The Smiths', as created by Morrissey.

2. All Smiths artwork, as created by Morrissey.

3. All Smiths merchandising rights.

4. All Smiths songs lyrically / musically.

5. All synchronisation rights.

6. All Smiths recordings.

7. All contractual rights for Smiths publishing.
