If you’ve ever wanted to go behind the scenes of one of Australia’s most iconic studios, now’s the chance, with Richmond’s Bakehouse Studios announcing their 2025 open day.
Throwing open their doors on Saturday, February 22nd, the studio-wide event will feature live music performances from Miss Kaninna, Kutcha Edwards & Friends, Rudely Interrupted and Magnets, and will also showcase the success of the studio’s 2024 inclusivity upgrades – including installation of a studio elevator, ramped stage and other accessible facilities.
It doesn’t end there though, because the event also celebrates the completion of the 2024 First Nations Artist Residencies, and will see Bakehouse launch a new round of inaugural studio residencies to support artists living with disabilities, to take place throughout 2025.
“For many years one of our senior Songmen couldn't access the upstairs rehearsal spaces,” says Uncle Kutcha Edwards in a statement.
“When I was asked to support & advocate for a new lift so that everyone had the opportunity to be in all the beautiful rehearsal rooms at Bakehouse, I was more than happy to do so. Now the lift is in, it's time to celebrate inclusion for all.”

“Bakehouse Studios is creating access to a vital development and showcase space at the centre of the Australian Music scene,” adds Nikki Zerella, Arts Access Victoria’s Deputy CEO.
“They have taken this significant step to ensure no one is left behind. We couldn’t be prouder to bear witness to their commitment and dedication to equity. Bakehouse shows us the true power music has in connecting us all.”
Opened by Quincy McLean and Helen Marcou in 1991, Bakehouse Studios has become an iconic staple of the Melbourne music scene.
Iconic Aussie names such as Nick Cave, The Avalanches, Olivia Newton-John, Tame Impala, and the Cosmic Psychos have all been there, as have international icons like Elvis Costello, Tool, Deftones, Cat Power, Suzi Quatro, and more.
The open day is free, with donations options available, and door prizes to be won. Full details of Bakehouse Studios’ open day are available via their website.
