In excellent news for music lovers with a Foxtel subscription, the Australian pay television company has revived Max and CMC in a music channel revamp.
Today’s news arrives just weeks after it was announced that Foxtel would axe its music channels, MTV Hits, Nick Music, MTV Club, MTV 80s and CMT.
The five channels were introduced to Foxtel viewers in July 2020 following a deal made with ViacomCBS. The new-ish channels were added after the scrapping of long-running, locally operated Australian music video channels, Channel [V], Max, Smooth, and CMC.
Now, Foxtel is set to welcome 34 new music channels to its programming, following the securing of new partnerships with Nightlife Music and LiSTNR, as well as the extension of its existing partnership with Vevo.
Not only will the locally programmed Max and CMC return to the platform, but Foxtel will also welcome the 100% local music channel, Australian Played. The ad-free, locally programmed channels include Trending (ch.801), Kids (ch.802), Club (ch.803), Retro (ch.804), CMC (ch.805), Max (ch.806), and Australian Played (ch.807), as part of the company’s partnership with Nightlife Music.
Expanding its Vevo partnership, which already includes the music channels Vevo Pop, Vevo Rock, Vevo 90s and Vevo 2K, Foxtel will also welcome Vevo 70s (ch.813) and Vevo Country (ch.815).

The Nightlife Music and new Vevo channels will be available on Foxtel and BINGE starting Tuesday, 1 July.
In addition to the music channels listed above, Foxtel will expand its audio programming, with LiSTNR Music making its debut on Foxtel.
Set to feature 25 new playlists, the highlights include an epic suite of Triple M stations, such as Classic Rock, AC/DC, Queen, and more, The Hit Network’s RnB Fridays Radio, Dance Hits, and others, Indie & Alt, Chill and acoustic vibes, and Good Vibes and Roadtrip anthems.
The new audio channels are “coming soon” to Foxtel.
In a statement, Nightlife’s Head of Music & Content, Matthew Lymbury, said of the new and old music channels coming to Foxtel: “We are thrilled to deliver seven music channels to Foxtel – not just the hits, but the heritage.
“Relaunching favourites like Max and CMC is a ‘pinch me’ moment. Our archive spans generations, from country classics to dancefloor anthems – and we’re excited to bring it to viewers at home. Australian Played puts homegrown talent front and centre – it’s a true celebration of Aussie music, now available in households nationwide.”
Chris Johnson, Executive Head LiSTNR Product & Technology, commented: “We’re excited to bring LiSTNR’s expertly curated music experience to Foxtel audiences. This showcases the passion and diverse tastes of Aussie listeners - from Triple M’s iconic rock heritage to the vibrant energy of The Hit Network and the immersive moods of LiSTNR’s playlists. It’s a natural step forward in enhancing the way Australians seamlessly connect with music in their living room.”
Foxtel Group Executive Director, Content & Commercial Partnerships, Stephanie Quinn, added: “By combining the expertise of LiSTNR and Nightlife Music – two leaders in playlist curation – with our platform, we are championing music in the home in a new and exciting way. We’re looking forward to bringing more innovation to lounge rooms in the future.”
