This year’s season of Australian Idol has officially wrapped, and was won by 19-year-old Queensland singer, Marshall Hamburger.
The singer won following weeks of heart-on-his-sleeve performances, during which he also played the piano, showcasing a range of musical abilities. From his audition of Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic by The Police to performing Higher Love by Steve Winwood and You Make Me Feel Like Dancing with Leo Sayer in the finale, he brought a timeless charm to the stage.
In addition to being named this year’s Australian Idol, Hamburger took home $100,000 in prize money and scored an exclusive recording package with Hive Sound Studios.

Upon his name being read as the winner last night (7 April), he said, “Australia, thank you so much! You are going to hear a lot from me in the future. I’m going to be out there.”
He added, “I honestly can’t believe it. I’ve changed so much; I’ve definitely stepped out of my shell.”
Judge Amy Shark said, “From the first second you came into that audition room and sat at that piano, you morphed into a superstar. Now, you are an absolute weapon ready to take on the world.”
Kyle Sandilands quipped, “I would love to get a psychic medium to find out which dead music legend you’ve reincarnated. It’s just not possible that such a young, fresh boy is such a seasoned genius musician.”
Hamburger battled it out in the finale with 17-year-old rock singer Iilysh Retallick and 17-year-old pop/R&B singer Gisella Colletti. Before Hamburger was announced as the winner, Retallick said of his abilities, “You showed me who you are… you’re a bloody good person. Never stop being you. You’re a genius, and you’re an Idol to me and Australia no matter what happens.”
Throughout his time on the show, Hamburger also performed tracks including Benson Boone’s Beautiful Things, John Farnham’s Playing To Win, Daryl Braithwaite’s As The Days Go By, Elton John’s Benny And The Jets, and Hip To Be Square by Huey Lewis And The News.
TV Blackbox reports that Idol received record-breaking votes for last night’s results show, with over a million votes cast for the final three singers.
