MadonnaDespite a mixed response to her album MDNA, released earlier in the year, Madonna has still topped the annual Billboard list of top grossing tours for 2012, raking in an enormous $228.4 million, according to Reuters. The MDNA shows didn't make it to Australia, despite plenty of talk that they would. In the end there was so much noise about the perceived snubbing of our country that Madonna was forced to respond.
Second on the list was Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band, who will be in Australia early next year, the tour on the back of the 63-year-old's Wrecking Ball album bringing in $199 million, while Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, whose epic The Wall show toured Australia early this year, took out third spot with $186 million grossed.
Cirque Du Soleil's Michael Jackson tribute The Immortal World Tour took fourth spot, with the number five position on the list marking the first appearance of a relatively contemporary act, Coldplay slotting in there having grossed $142.7 million this year. Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift were the only other young acts to feature in the full list of 25 acts.
The list is compiled by Billboard, who use estimates pertaining to concert tours, ticket prices and sales to come up with the figures.
