Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist and co-lead vocalist Lindsey Buckingham was attacked by a woman reportedly known to him while entering a building in Santa Monica on Wednesday (1 April).

NME reports that the musician had just entered a building while on his way to an appointment when the woman allegedly threw an unknown substance at him and ran away.

Buckingham wasn’t injured in the alleged incident. Local law enforcement believes the woman had discovered the time and location of the guitarist’s appointment and may have been waiting for his arrival.

The LA Times notes that the Los Angeles Police Department reported that the suspect who allegedly attacked Buckingham had a history of “stalking” him. While the woman wasn’t apprehended on Wednesday, an arrest is expected soon.

LAPD Capt. Mike Bland stated to the LA Times, “The Los Angeles Police Department, Threat Management Unit, is working with the Santa Monica Police Department to investigate the incident.

“To protect the integrity of the open and ongoing investigation, no further comment will be provided at this time.”

Representatives for Buckingham haven’t yet shared a comment on the alleged incident.

Last year, Buckingham made a long-awaited reunion with his Fleetwood Mac bandmate, Stevie Nicks, when the pair reissued their 1973 album, Buckingham Nicks, making the album available for the first time since its original release.

Upon the album’s release, Nicks revealed that she and Buckingham were back on good terms. “Lindsey and I started talking about [the album] last night. This whole thing seems really like yesterday to us,” she said.

More recently, Buckingham hinted that he and Nicks could be reuniting once again. In a video shared on social media, he discussed the year ahead, including plans for a solo album and a new Fleetwood Mac documentary.

Then, he hinted at reuniting with Nicks again. “On a more general level, just the energy of what Buckingham Nicks did to sort of create a resurgence of connection between Stevie and myself, I think on a larger scale that seems to be something that’s in the air,” he said.

Buckingham added, “And what that translates to specifically, I wouldn’t want to speculate yet, but I believe with all my heart it will translate to something good and something wonderful and something needed and something extremely appropriate.”

In 2024, Stevie Nicks confirmed that there would be no more Fleetwood Mac without Christine McVie.

“Without Christine, no can do,” she said in an interview. “There is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together in any way. Without her, it just couldn’t work.”

In 2023, Mick Fleetwood said the band was “done” without McVie.

Christine McVie passed away in November 2022. She was known for penning and singing numerous Fleetwood Mac hits, including Everywhere, Songbird, You Make Loving Fun and Little Lies.
