Byron-based ARIA nominated alt-pop star Kita Alexander has been announced as the local support for Dua Lipa on her sold-out Radical Optimism Australia/New Zealand tour.

Best known for her Atmosphere collaboration with FISHER, Alexander has made a name for herself in the Australian music scene - garnering over 300 million global streams, 2 ARIA Gold singles, and a 2 time ARIA Platinum single, Hotel.

Announcing that she’ll be joining Lipa on tour, Alexander posted a heartwarming video to Instagram - getting her children to guess who she’ll be opening for. After wrong guesses aplenty, including Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift, Alexander told them the good news, and danced to Lipa’s hit single, Levitating.

Alongside the video, Alexander’s caption revealed that she and Lipa have actually had a long history.

“I first met @dualipa when I just turned 18. Signed to the same management and being excited/terrified about starting my career/new to living in London, Dua was a shining light who was always kind and warm towards me. I always looked up to her, her drive, her powerful voice and vividly remember our team constantly playing Hotter Than Hell to me saying she is going to be the next big thing, a STAR. I believed it.”

Continuing on with the rave review, Alexander wrote, “Her talent and work ethic was nothing short of inspiring. AND the fact that our paths are entwining back together for this tour makes me so excited. I’m so proud of you @dualipa and forever grateful for this opportunity that you’re giving me to tour with you in Aus/NZ. Time flies, but Radical Optimism is timeless. I cannot wait to see this show.”

Lipa also shared the news to her own socials, writing, “We’re so excited to have @kitaalexander join us and can’t wait to see you all for these 10 unforgettable nights.”

The Radical Optimism tour is completely sold out, even with four additional shows. Lipa is set to perform at Rod Laver Arena on Monday, 17 March, Wednesday, 19 March, Thursday, 20 March, Saturday, 22 March, and Sunday, 23 March.

She’ll then head to Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena for three dates: Wednesday, 26 March, Friday, 28 March, and Saturday, 29 March, before she travels to New Zealand for two shows at Auckland’s Spark Arena on Wednesday, 2 April, and Friday, 4 April.

Radical Optimism, Lipa’s latest album, hit #2 in Australia and was preceded by singles Houdini, Training Season, and Illusion, with Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker a key contributor throughout the LP.

Explaining the inspiration behind Radical Optimism, Lipa said that a friend introduced her to the term, and the concept resonated with her. She continued, “I became more curious as I started to play with it and weave it into my life. It struck me — the idea of going through chaos gracefully and feeling like you can weather any storm.”
