Australian rock music icon Jon Stevens is back: he’s released a new single, Shimmer, and is preparing to release a new album.
Following some teasing this week, the Take Me Back singer harkens back to the glory days of Australian rock music in the ‘80s and ‘90s, blending elements of country—slide guitar and harmonies, primarily—with classic rock vibes, including a zippy guitar solo before the last chorus.
The single artwork also echoes the ‘80s vibe of the song, with a Stranger Things-esque font for the title card and a young person being pulled into the air by a UFO.
“Got this feeling that I can’t ignore,” he sings, telling a story of love, community, and seeing a loved one “shimmer.” The track showcases Stevens’ signature vocal strength, contrasted with a bright, energetic new sound.
You can check out the single below.
At the time of publication, no release date for the album—also named Shimmer—is listed. However, pre-orders and merchandise are scheduled to ship on Wednesday, 8 October. The record is either coming on Friday, 10 October, or earlier, with merch shipped later on. You can pre-order the album here.

The follow-up to 2017’s Starlight, fans are encouraged to keep an eye on Stevens’ social media for more updates surrounding the album.
Of course, Jon Stevens is best known for fronting some of Australia and New Zealand’s most enduring bands, including Noiseworks, INXS, and The Dead Daisies.
According to a press release, his forthcoming album was written and recorded in Melbourne, Los Angeles, New York, and Hawaii, in between Stevens’ many touring commitments.
It’s described as a deeply personal record that finds Stevens pushing the boundaries once more. He adds that Shimmer is “honest, expansive, and grounded in emotional truth,” while exploring themes of love, loss, and redemption.
This November, Stevens will bring a show celebrating the hits of INXS and Noiseworks to Hobart for the just-announced live music series, Live At The Point.
Led by the team behind Sydney’s Night At The Barracks and the newly launched Night At The Parkland, held in Brisbane, the forthcoming series will be situated at Wrest Point, overlooking Hobart’s River Derwent.
