More Jeff Buckley More Jeff Buckley

Jeff Buckley is an icon.

He released just one studio album in his career, the brilliant Grace, in 1994. In 1996, he was working on his second album with the working title, My Sweetheart The Drunk. He was still working on the album upon moving to Memphis, Tennessee, in February 1997. On 29 May 1997, Buckley drowned while swimming in the Wolf River in Memphis.

Of course, there have been posthumous releases since his untimely passing, including a collection of four-track demos and studio recordings for My Sweetheart The Drunk, plus reissues of Grace and the Live At Sin-é EP.

In 1995, Buckley embarked on his first-ever Australian tour, and this week marks 30 years since he made his Australian debut. To celebrate, Double J has gone through the vault and unveiled Jeff Buckley – Live At The Wireless, recorded at the Phoenician Club in Sydney in 1995.

Fans who tuned in from 6 pm last night got to hear it for the first time, but if you missed it, you can tune in to Double J on Saturday (6 September) from midday, or stream the iconic gig now on the ABC Listen app.
