Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley has shared a series of videos dedicated to the band’s dedicated fans across the globe, including their Australian fans.

In the video dedicated to the band’s fans Down Under, Whibley apologised for the cancellation of their Good Things Festival and sideshows, which meant ticketholders missed out on Sum 41’s farewell shows in Australia.

Sum 41 cancelled their December sideshows and Good Things Festival appearances because Whibley was diagnosed with pneumonia and was too unwell to continue the tour.

When they shared the bad news with fans, it was with “deep sadness” and “under the guidance and direction of multiple Australian doctors.” The band added that they were “gutted” to no longer be able to make the shows.

“This is the part that I hate – the fact that we had to miss shows, miss festivals… all I can say is, I’m so sorry,” the In Too Deep singer began in the video dedicated to Australian fans.

“I’m so sorry for all the places we couldn’t get to and the shows we couldn’t make. There were festivals in Australia, Mexico, and Canada that we unfortunately – we tried everything we could – obviously, in Australia, it was very public [that] I had pneumonia.

“I was there, I did my best, I made it there… Unfortunately, we couldn’t move any of those shows, because they were festivals.

“All I can say – and it’s still not enough – but sincerely, I’m so sorry. We really wanted to play; it just really fell out of our control, and I can’t say sorry enough. But I’m truly sorry.”

In the other videos, Whibley addressed fans in Asia, the US, Europe, and, of course, their homegrown fans in Canada. He capped off the videos with an acoustic version of So Long Goodbye.

Sum 41 announced they’d be disbanding and saying farewell to their fans in 2023, wrapping up their career after 28 years.

The band played their final show on Thursday, 30 January, at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, ON, Canada. However, their final appearance will be at the JUNO Awards on Sunday, 30 March, when they receive their well-deserved induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
