"Amoeba and the building owner are open to us potentially staying longer."

Los Angeles' beloved Amoeba Music record store has been sold to developers and will be replaced by a luxury skyscraper, it has been revealed.

As reported by LAist, real estate group GPI Companies enlisted architectural illustration firm Shimahara to mock up a rendering of the fancy, multi-story tower at Amoeba's location, 6400 Sunset Boulevard.

The 24,000 square feet record store, which is a Hollywood institution and opened in 2001, was reportedly sold for $34 million last year and will become a 20-something level tower with a rooftop pool.

Amoeba confirmed the sale, but added that they would "remain in our building for the duration of our lease — which is several years — and Amoeba and the building owner are open to us potentially staying longer".
