Canberra alt-rockers Hands Like Houses have made a huge dent on the ARIA Charts this week. They’ve landed at #1 on the Australian Albums Chart and #5 on the overall Albums Chart with the release of their new EP, Lótus.

It’s an achievement they’ve described as “absolutely mental” on their Instagram Stories, while thanking ARIA and their devoted fans for the support on the Lótus EP.

Hands Like Houses previously made it on the charts on multiple occasions. They reached #51 on the overall chart in 2023 with Unimagine, #7 in 2016 with Dissonants, #4 in 2018 with Anon, and #36 last year with Atmospherics, which also reached #2 on the Australian Albums Chart.

Other Australian achievements on the chart include Adelaide’s aleksiah making her ARIA chart debut with Good On Paper, landing at #7 on the overall Albums Chart. It also sits at #2 on the Australian Albums Chart and #10 on the Vinyl Chart.

Melbourne’s Amyl And The Sniffers also landed at #22 on the overall Albums Chart, #2 on the Vinyl Chart and #3 on the Australian Albums Chart with the reissue of a pair of their early EPs, Giddy Up/Big Attraction.

Meanwhile, Kingswood picked up their fifth Top 50 album with Midnight Mavericks, making it to #23 on the overall Albums Chart, #3 on the Vinyl Chart, and #4 on the Australian Albums Chart. And Ecca Vandal made her chart debut, landing at #12 on the Australian Albums Chart with LOOKING FOR PEOPLE TO UNFOLLOW.

The UK’s Maisie Peters has topped this week’s overall Albums Chart following the release of her new album, Florescence.

Hands Like Houses recently wrapped a headline tour across Australia, where they were joined by special guests Dream On Dreamer.

Ahead of the tour, in support of the Lótus EP, they launched a national search for local bands to open each show, citing a lack of opportunities for those acts to play in larger venues.

“There are a lot of stacked international tours rolling through right now (which is awesome), but real opportunities for local Aussie bands to play bigger rooms are still super limited,” the band explained.

They added, “So, we want to do this properly. We started our career opening for touring shows through Canberra, and we understand the confidence and momentum it can help build for any artist.

“We’ll check every submission; stats don’t matter, music does. Every selected support band will be PAID. Always. Much love, support local, support Aussie music.”
