Green DayGreen Day performed a hit-filled medley at Super Bowl LX, and while they didn’t make an explicit statement about the current administration on stage, the song choices did the talking.
Performing at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara today, the American rockers opened their five-minute set with a snippet of Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) before bursting into a medley of fan-favourites, including Holiday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and an energetic finale of American Idiot.
“Don’t wanna be an American idiot / Don’t want a nation under the new mania / And can you hear the sound of hysteria? / The subliminal mindf*ck America,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong sang. However, he skipped the second verse, where he typically amends the lyrics to mock Donald Trump and the “MAGA agenda,” or sometimes Elon Musk.
You can watch the performance below.
Before the band performed, Coco Jones delivered a version of Lift Every Voice And Sing, Brandi Carlile sang America the Beautiful, and Charlie Puth performed the American national anthem.

Following those performances, Bad Bunny will headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show. The game is currently airing on Channel Seven and 7Plus, or if you prefer streaming, live on Kayo and Disney+ with ESPN coverage. The Halftime Show is expected to air at approximately 12 pm AEDT.
Green Day were announced to perform at this year’s Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks last month. At the time, Armstrong said, “We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard.”
In late January, US President Donald Trump confirmed that he wouldn’t be watching this year’s Super Bowl and critiqued the selections of Green Day and Bad Bunny. “I’m anti-them. I think it’s a terrible choice,” he told the New York Post. “All it does is sow hatred. Terrible.”
Green Day brought their Saviors tour—which included performances of American Idiot and Dookie in their entirety—to Australia last March.
Reviewing their show at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, The Music’s Claire Dunton remarked, “As the crowd emptied Marvel Stadium, the crowds were buzzing with the most uniform-looking attendees we had ever seen. A sea of Green Day band shirts celebrating the 2024/2025 tour as well as previous work tours were seen on all ages, eager to wear a piece of a band important to so many.”
