Bad Bunny addressed his critics over the weekend, putting them on the spot and informing them they have “four months to learn” Spanish during his presentation on Saturday Night Live (4 October).

Last week (29 September), it was announced that global sensation Bad Bunny, aka Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, would headline the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show. While he’s a supremely popular artist, there are still people who aren’t familiar with his brand of Latin pop music. As a result, they wondered why he’d been chosen for such a huge event.

However, there’s another type of critic Bad Bunny aimed at during his opening monologue on Saturday Night Live’s season 51 premiere—Fox News.

“I’m very happy. And I think everyone is happy about it — even Fox News,” Bad Bunny said, per Consequence Of Sound.

He then showcased a Fox News clip montage that was edited to make its anchors appear to say, “Bad Bunny is my favourite musician, and he should be the next president.”

The musician continued by delivering remarks in Spanish, where he thanked “Latinos and Latinas in the world here in the United States who have worked to open doors.

“It’s more than a win for myself; it’s a win for all of us. Our footprints and our contribution in this country, no one will ever be able to take that away or erase it.”

Returning to English, Bad Bunny shared the following message: “If you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn.”

Upon last week’s announcement that he’d headline the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show, Bad Bunny said, “What I'm feeling goes beyond myself.

“It's for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL.”

Oliver Schusser, Apple’s Vice President of Music, Sports and Beats, added: “The Halftime Show is the ultimate celebration of music and culture, and few artists embody that intersection more perfectly and authentically than Bad Bunny.

“At Apple Music, we’ve had the privilege of working closely with Bad Bunny over the years and watching his meteoric rise into one of the most influential artists of our time has been truly incredible.

“His music has not only broken records but has elevated Latin music to the centre of pop culture, and we are thrilled to once again partner with the NFL and Roc Nation to deliver this historic performance to millions of fans worldwide. We know this show will be unforgettable.”

The Super Bowl will take place on Sunday, 8 February, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. For Australian fans, the game will air on Monday, 9 February, with the Halftime Show typically taking place in the afternoon.

Bad Bunny will make his Australian debut in 2026, with two dates locked in at Sydney’s ENGIE Stadium (28 February and 1 March).

Recognised as the King of Latin Trap, Bad Bunny has developed an extraordinary career, catapulting Spanish-language rap music to the mainstream like no one else.
