Green Day Hint At 'Dookie' 30th Anniversary Plans

Are Green Day already preparing Dookie 30th anniversary plans?

The band’s third album and major label debut on Reprise Records was released on 1 February 1994, and looking at a new social media post without any additional information, it seems like something related to the big Dookie anniversary will be revealed soon.

Sharing an old image of the band on social media, members of Green Day mess around in the studio and on a tape deck. The caption? Two sets of suspicious eyeball emojis and “#Dookie30”. If that’s not an indication of Dookie anniversary celebrations, we don’t know what is.

Dookie spawned five well-known singles, including Longview, Basket Case, When I Come Around, She, and Welcome To Paradise, the latter of which featured initially on the band’s Kerplunk album.

The album also solidified pop-punk as a legitimate genre following the emotional and distorted heaviness of grunge, winning Green Day the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Album in 1995. Dookie also led the “sell-out” controversy amongst the group’s fans. In Australia, Dookie peaked at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart and was certified 5x Platinum.

Earlier this year, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong shocked fans at the Slim Jim’s Liquor Store dive bar in Islington, London, when he joined a cover band, Borderline Toxic, on stage for a roaring rendition of Basket Case.

The band was playing Basket Case when a wild Billie Joe Armstrong leapt onto the stage from the audience. As soon as he started singing, the crowd – and band members – immediately lost it. Cheers of delight and surprise rose through the audience, with vocalist Kerry Glass staring at him in awe.

In January, Green Day celebrated the 25th anniversary of Nimrod with a new reissue, arriving with the original tracklist, fourteen additional demos, and a recording of the band performing at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia in 1997. Green Day will join forces with blink-182 this October to headline an absolutely bonkers line-up at the 2023 edition of the When Were Young festival in Las Vegas. Yep, the stuff of emo kids’ dreams actually happened last year.

The headliners will be joined by Good Charlotte, The Offspring, 5 Seconds Of Summer, Pierce The Veil, Rise Against, Yellowcard, Sum 41, Simple Plan, Say Anything, New Found Glory, Thrice, Finch and many more on Saturday, 21 October, at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds.
