Believe It Or Not, INXS And Karnivool Are Connected To The 2021 Grammy Nominations

Here are some other local names you may have missed...

Tame Impala and Flume will be the biggest names representing Australia at the 2021 Grammy Awards, but there a few more local names you may have missed in last week's announce.

While Tibetan-born Brisbane-based songwriter Tenzin Choegyal has scored a nomination in the Best New Age Album category for Songs From The Boardo, which he made alongside composer Jesse Paris Smith and multi-media artist Laurie Anderson, there are a number of Aussie contributors scattered throughout the nominations.

Here are a few fun facts you may not have known:

  • Drew Goddard, of Perth outfit Karnivool, played on and was a co-writer for Arabesque, featured on Coldplay's Everyday Life which is up for Album Of The Year
  • The late Michael Hutchence and Andrew Farriss are credited as songwriters on Dua Lipa single, Break My Heart, which samples INXS classic Need You Tonight. Lipa's album, Future Nostalgia, is nominated for Album Of The Year
  • Melbourne songwriter Mike Waters is credited on John Legend's U Move, I Move from the album Bigger Love which is up for Best R&B Album
  • Grammy Award-winning engineer and producer Chris O'Brien (aka TEK) engineered on a few Justin Bieber collabs (Best Pop Vocal Album for Changes and the singles, Yummy, Intentions and 10,000 Hours
  • Matthew Flindell and Marcello Milani have songwriting credits on Jigten from Tenzin Choegyal's Songs From The Boardo
  • Melbourne songwriter Mitch Wong is credited on Death Of Death from Cody Barnes' record, Run To The Father, which is up for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album

Meanwhile, New Zealand heavyweight Kimbra is a writer and featured performer on In My Bones from Jacob Collier's Djesse VOL.3, which is nominated for Album of the Year.
