With a strong community spirit and a special focus on bringing female musicians to the forefront, the Mullum Youth Mentorship program have announced 2016's winners and four out of the five categories have been taken out by talented up-and-coming female musos.

With Suzannah Espie and Nattali Rize at the helm as mentors, 15-year-old Byron Bay student Lorelai (Isabella Cox) has taken out the Singer/Songwriter category. Espie, who will mentor young Cox, says, "I chose Lorelai because she has a good swag of songs already that are really nicely recorded, with some great catchy little hooks helping to deliver some tender and personal lyrics."

Ballina's 14-year-old Chloe Mason has won the Vocal category, judged by Shelly Brown, with Brown stating, "Her delivery is strong, unique and relaxed. I chose her because I want to hear more," while the Wild Card Entry was taken out by 14-year-old Byron Bay musician Hannah Parrington. Judge Iain Shedden says, "I was impressed by Hannah's grasp of live looping and its role in song structure, but also liked the song and the confidence in her voice."

Byron Bay High School trio East Atlantic took out the Band category as the only non-female winners, while the Under 15 category was won by Monica Brandolini, a Director's Pick for the Youth Mentorship program last year.
