“Tetsuo will trounce anything that was once here."
“Tetsuo will trounce anything that was once here,” says Tetsuo owner-operators Leighton Smith and Anneika Britten.
The new Northbridge live music venue will open its doors tonight and look vastly different to that of Ginger Nightclub, which used to occupy the space.
For the past few years, the William Street hang has cycled through a number of different ventures, including popular Ginger nights Mondo, Silk Haus and Canvas and prior to that, it was a strip club called The Site.
Having installed a brand-new bar at the back of the venue, Smith and Britten have “put some serious hours into getting the space just right” with “a huge focus on live music and entertainment” that’s reflected in its new layout.

“Patrons can expect a world-class experience in a space that is different to anything else in Perth,” they add. “Plus, we have got the best of the best in lighting and audio visual on board, which helps put Tetsuo above the rest.
“Ultimately, we want to marry two contrasting elements that the people of Perth are craving in the nightlife scene; quality drinks and fast service…the club will offer a comfortable setting full of good people, good booze and some damn good live music at a decent price.”
With the main room hosting an “intercontinental touring-spec stage and lighting setup” and back bar delivering “an all-night, intimate encounter in the fourth dimension”, the opening weekend is diverse and massive.
A local line-up kicks off the opening night on Friday before In Hearts Wake, Hands Like Houses and more lead a massive bill on Saturday. “From the point of conception, the team has always agreed that Tetsuo wouldn’t be genre specific,” they explain. “There is plenty of talent across the board that sounds and feels that much better in an intimate setting with a great drink in hand. We are not ruling anything out.”
