FEATURE: Luca Brasi - Hottest new Aussie bands

Tassie favourites Luca Brasi released their anticipated new studio album last Friday. Recorded in Hobart, the full-length is another slice of homegrown punk excellence, which, again, see the band at the forefront of the local scene.

Described in our album review as, "the best effort from the quartet thus far,"'If This Is All We're Going To Be' is another must-have in the collection.

To coincide with the release, Luca Brasi recently checked-in to discuss their favourite new Aussie bands.

Camp Cope

Georgia Maq did a lot of solo stuff for a lot of years and was rad then. We’ve played with her a bunch of times, and they were always good friends. And then, when she started doing the Camp Cope band thing it was like a whole other echelon. Totally. They’re such good songs, so well written, such good stories. They’re rad.

Alex Lahey

She’s from Melbourne. I don’t know anything about her other than I started hearing this song on triple j called, ‘You Don’t Think You Like People Like Me’ and it was just a full blown, power pop, absolute banger. Just so good. Once again – so good to see girls like that just killing it. They’ve got such big things in front of them.

Slowly Slowly

Ben from Slowly is the singer and plays guitar – he’s like the best drummer that I’ve ever seen in my life [too]. He played for The Sinking Teeth for a lot of years. And now he’s doing his own thing with a band and it’s just rad. He’s got the best voice and he can play guitar, and he’s by far the best drummer around. It’s so unfair. It took me so long to be bad at playing bass – not being fucking good at two things!

Self Talk

Another band from Melbourne. Frank from Ceres plays the drums in this band and his better half is the lead singer and guitarist. Awesome pop punk band, so good at playing, great songs again – same deal, they’re just rad.

Knife Hands

A Tassie band that’s finally starting to kick into gear. They’ve been in a bunch of other Tassie bands – bands like Ball Point and Stand Defiant who were a big influence on us when we were 18, 19 – before we played in bands or anything like that. And now they’re back and that same crew of dudes are killing it. They had their EP launch show [recently] and it was sick. They’re so fast, super technical.
