“The City supports live music and performances and wherever possible we work collaboratively with venues to resolve issues.”

The Sydney council has spoken out about the closure of beloved live music venue Mr Falcon’s, stating it was “a decision of the property owner” following discussions around the Glebe hotspot allegedly not complying with approved trading hours.

Earlier this week, Mr Falcon’s posted an image to Facebook that stated the venue is “closed until further notice” with no other explanation, and amid speculation it was due to noise complaints, the council has said they were not responsible for the closure.

“The City of Sydney has previously contacted the premise about instances of trading outside of approved hours, but did not take any enforcement action and did not ask the property owner to close the premise or cease staging entertainment,” a City of Sydney spokesperson told The Music.

Operating a Burlesque and variety entertainment show regularly in the venue’s intimate upstairs room, Memphis Mae and Bella Louche said they were just as surprised as anyone else about the closure.

“The closure came as a shock to us all and we are at a loss for words, this is the end of an era,” said a statement on the Mr Falcon’s Burlesque Facebook page.
“There are no further details that have been released as to the reason this has happened though it is not the details we need its the memories and love for what was an incredible part of our lives.”

The Music has reached out to Mr Falcon’s for comment.
