Emma Louise & Ball Park Music Win Big At Queensland Music Awards

Young talent shines bright on Queensland's night of nights.

The Queensland Music Awards have come and gone for another year, and some of the city's most well-loved artists are going home with awards tucked under their arms.

Early on Thelma Plum took out the Indigenous award thanks to her song Rosie (written alongside Andrew Lowden), adding to the NIMA awards she picked up in Darwin at the weekend. Familiar names Kingfisha and Harmony James took out the blues/roots and country categories respectively, before the big guns came out blazing late in the evening.

The Trouble With Templeton took out the Rock category this year with their song Six Months In A Cast, world beaters The Amity Affliction won the Heavy award for their Chasing Ghosts and Ball Park Music picked up their first of two awards for the night with their Surrender taking out the Pop award. Georgia Potter became the first ever winner of the awards' Music Video category with her video XO.

While she left her run late, Emma Louise was there when it counted, taking out the awards for Export Achievement, Most Popular Female and Album Of The Year (for her acclaimed vs Head vs Heart). Ball Park Music took out their second award for the night, taking out the much coveted Song of the Year category, while The Jungle Giants were voted Most Popular Group.

Perhaps the night's biggest upset was that of Velociraptor frontman and much-loved solo artist Jeremy Neale snatching victory against former Powderfinger frontman and all-round Aussie hero Bernard Fanning in the Most Popular Male category.

The late, great Mick Hadley of the Purple Hearts was honoured posthumously for the G.W. McLennan Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Queensland music over so many years.

Violent Soho, Seja, Thelma Plum, The Jungle Giants, The Trouble with Templeton, Urban category winners BlaqCarrie, Harmony James, Pigeon and Chukale all performed through the night.
