It’s fair to say that Dua Lipa has greatly enjoyed her time on her current Radical Optimism world tour in Australia and New Zealand.

With multiple shows in Melbourne—five at Rod Laver Arena, to be exact—and three nights at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena, she ended the Australasian run at Auckland’s Spark Arena. Due to extraordinary demand, two shows in New Zealand brought thousands to the venue.

On Wednesday (2 April), she kicked off the New Zealand dates with a bang, performing a huge set that included a cover of Lorde’s iconic breakthrough single, Royals. Continuing the trend of honouring a country’s homegrown artists with covers and performing with special guests, Lipa was joined by a big name to wrap up the Auckland dates last night (4 April).

Launching into the eighth song of the set, Lipa addressed the audience, “I get to do one of my favourite songs by a Kiwi legend,” and introduced the one and only Neil Finn. The pair duetted the legendary Crowded House song, Don’t Dream It’s Over. On Instagram, she described the duet as a “pinch me” moment.

Dua Lipa first toured New Zealand in 2018, opening for Bruno Mars, before returning in 2022 with a massive tour of her own during her Future Nostalgia run.

In Australia, Lipa honoured numerous Aussie icons on her recent tour dates. She ventured through pop with renditions of Kylie Minogue’s eternal classic, Can’t Get You Out Of My Head, and Natalie Imbruglia’s cover of Torn and rock with unexpected songs like AC/DC’s Highway To Hell and INXS’s Never Tear Us Apart.

Besides the covers, Lipa was joined by special guests for four nights, paying tribute to them by performing their songs by their side. She sang Rush with Troye Sivan, Riptide with Vance Joy, The Less I Know The Better with Kevin Parker (of Tame Impala fame), and Big Jet Plane with Angus Stone.

Reviewing Lipa’s recent Melbourne show, The Music’s Monique La Terra wrote, “The show closed with Houdini, a bold, shimmering anthem with an assertive bassline that sounded even better live, leaving the audience with a lasting sense of empowerment. In fact, the entire night was a lesson in harnessing one’s power, with Lipa’s performance fuelling a confidence that lingered long after the final note.”
