Fans at Tame Impala’s show at The O2 Arena in London on Thursday (7 May) were presented with an epic surprise: a special guest appearance from pop star Dua Lipa, taking to the stage for two songs.

The New Rules hitmaker joined Kevin Parker and co. on stage during the second half of the band’s set, performing the Tame Impala number, Afterthought, from their latest album, Deadbeat.

Lipa also brought pop star energy into the room upon launching into her song, Houdini, which was co-written and co-produced by Parker and features on her most recent album, Radical Optimism.

You can watch footage of the performance below.

Tame Impala are currently touring in support of Deadbeat. Presenting the new songs to fans across the UK—nine songs are on recent setlists—Australian fans won’t have to wait much longer for their turn, with the Deadbeat tour finally coming home in October.

The band’s Australian tour has been met with phenomenal demand, with additional dates announced and sold-out shows in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth. They’re joined by special guest Ninajirachi, the Aussie producer who experienced a breakout year in 2025.

Deadbeat topped the charts in Australia, while the recent hit single Dracula reached #3 on this year’s triple j Hottest 100. In February, Parker won his second Grammy Award – for Best Dance/Electronic Recording – for the near-seven-minute dance opus, End of Summer.

Lipa previously described Houdini as showcasing “the most light and freeing parts of my singledom. Houdini is very tongue-in-cheek, exploring the idea of whether someone is really worth my while or if I’ll ghost them in the end.

“You never know where something may take you; that’s the beauty of being open to whatever life throws your way. I’m looking forward to sharing that feeling of defiant bliss with my fans.”

On the album, she added, “A lot of this album was written in those joyous moments of absolute chaos and how I moved through the world with lightness and optimism of whatever the outcome may be.”

Before the release of Radical Optimism, Lipa cited influences such as Massive Attack, Primal Scream, and, of course, Tame Impala.
