The signing comes in the wake of his nomination for the Best Urban Album ARIA Award, to be decided this week
Veteran Australian rapper Drapht is ending 2016 with a freshly plucked feather to stick in his cap with the news that the Rapunzel hitmaker has signed with international industry heavyweight BMG.
The German-bred publisher will represent Drapht on a worldwide basis, with the deal securing the rights to the hip hop star's entire back catalogue, which brings with it five studio albums including 2011's ARIA #1 Platinum-selling LP The Life Of Riley, along with this year's Seven Mirrors — from which 2015 single Dancin' John Doe was taken, as well as follow-ups All Love and Mexico — and earlier efforts Brothers Grimm (2008), Who Am I (2005) and Pale Rider (2003).
The new signing sees Drapht join the company's existing Aussie roster, which already boasts well-regarded locals such as Peking Duk, San Cisco, Meg Mac, Wave Racer, Nicole Millar, Montaigne, Matt Corby, Tame Impala, Wolfmother, The Cat Empire, L D R U and The Living End. None too shabby company, any.
"I'm really stoked about signing with the BMG family," Drapht said in a statement. "There are exciting times ahead with the countless opportunities that could arise and the music that could come from working alongside their team."

Effused BMG Australia managing director Heath Johns: "Drapht is a genuinely unique artist and an inspired songwriter. The whole team at BMG is incredibly excited by this deal and we look forward to opening up a world of collaboration for Drapht at home and abroad."
In the immediate future, Drapht is up for Best Urban Album at this week's ARIA Awards; the results will be revealed tomorrow night, 23 November, at the prizegiving event in Sydney.
